2018 THE FUNK Estate Syrah
Appellation
Walla Walla Valley
Vineyard
Funk Estate Vineyard located in The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater. Distinguished by alluvial soils, consisting of basalt pebbles, cobbles and boulders washed from the Blue Mountains.
Fermentation
Partial whole cluster and partially destemmed Syrah, co-fermented with 4% whole cluster Viognier.
Aging
19 months in small French oak puncheons. 25% New.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with fragrant floral notes from the Viognier which was co-fermented with the Syrah. This leads to an amazing aromatic profile with cured meats, peppercorns, blackberry, black raspberry, mandarin, lavender, and cocoa nibs. This is followed by a rich, full-bodied sensation on the palate showcasing polished tannins and layers of savory, briny olives, licorice, dark berries, and spice. Enjoy from 2022 to 2037.
“Drop-dead gorgeous on the nose…the 2018 The Funk Estate Syrah walks the line between a floral, ripe, juicy, and earthy expression of Syrah. A master class of precision and finesse. I cannot put my glass down.” – Anthony Mueller
